I found informations about Mito clan's school for the feudal domains - it was named Kodokan. Opened in August 1841. Any relations for later Kodokan of Jigoro Kano?

Different kanji, but while the pronunciation may have been an inspiration for Kanô shihan as it was an inspiration for many others, I can't recall ever seeing a specific reference from Kanô shihan that he was in fact was inspired by the school.

    講道館 versus 弘道館

It is also the name and kanji of a famous publishing house, Kôdôkan.
