    Newaza etiquette Empty Newaza etiquette

Took my partner to our dojo's Christmas party the other week and she was surprised (a) that there were some attractive women judoka and (b) how little I knew about them.

I said 'what you think after rolling around the mat with someone, your surprised I don't ask them whether they're single and where they live'?

Wondered what is considered appropriate and what isn't?

We have most weeks a night out after a practice. Anyone who's inclined (and over 21) can come out for beers and socialize at the pub a couple doors down. In the dojo we don't really take time to be all that chatty.
As far as newaza etiquette, I show up in a laundered judogi, maintain control of my bodily functions, and am careful not to be too brisk with my kansetsuwaza and shimewaza. Nothing worse than someone in a smelly gi with gas cranking your neck.

I think I've never had a single personal discussion in the dojo, apart from checking on injuries which is judo related. Any personal conversations seem to take place in the changing rooms, so - as you can imagine - it's not with the women.

    +1

A few years ago went to by best judo friends wedding, all the judoka and their partners were on one table. All of our wifes / partners had the same comment, something like "don't you know anything about your friends" to which the usual response was "their favorite throw is ...", clearly we all focus on the important things.
