Canada will have 8 competitors as follows:
Event Gender Athletes
60kg Men, Sergio Pessoa
66kg Men, Antoine Bouchard
73kg Men, Arthur Margelidon
81kg Men, Antoine Valois-Fortier
100kg Men, Kyle Reyes
52kg Women, Ecaterina Guica
57kg Women, Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard
70kg Women, Kelita Zupancic
The USA has 6 competitors as follows:
52 kg. Women, Angelica Delgado
57 kg. Women, Marti Malloy
78 kg. Women, Kayla Harrison
73 kg. Men, Nick Delpopolo
81 kg. Men, Travis Stevens
90 kg. Men, Colton Brown
Despite the smaller team, I fear the USA may outdo us for medals. Kayla looks sure-fire for a medal if not Gold and Travis and Marti are both credible threats.
On the Canadian side Antoine V-F is a very strong hopeful and maybe, just maybe he can unseat the Georgian from the top of the heap. (I can dream can't I?) I think you could also look at either Kelita or Catherine B-P to be possible podium finishes, based on anyone in the top ten being only one match away from the podium on any given day.
While I was going through the exercise to see who would be on team Canada from the ranking list (not my job, I'm just nerdy that way...) I couldn't help nut notice that a lot of Brazilians didn't need the Host Country Bye to qualify. With a full team on the cards and most of them bone-fide qualifiers regardless we could see a record haul for the Host country.
Chime in one and all. Who's on your team and how do you fancy their chances?
