Randori where the individual stays Empty Randori where the individual stays

Post by cokiee Fri Mar 10, 2017 5:25 am

Hi friends, I come in seek of knowledge and advice, after having searched a bit without success. In my club and indeed country, we practice a sort of randori in which an individual is selected and has to go through X number of bouts. In some countries I suppose he or she would have been handed a red sash, but here we typically use a term which sounds like it could be 'mono-tachi', or 'moto-tachi'. In reality it sounds more like 'monotaj'.

Has anyone heard of something similar before, and if so, what is the correct term and what does it mean please?

    Thank you,

    Cokiee

I've heard it called several things, but I think the term you are looking for is "motodachi".

However, I learned this recently and don't know the meaning. I suppose if we had the kanji I could ask my friend here what it actually translates to.

ah yes! Perhaps it's moto-dachi. But I honestly wouldn't know. A quick google search shows a karate stance.
