What does the thanks button do?

Like the title says.

I suppose I could just click it, but it better to be safe than sorry. You can never be sure things will end well when clicking on random buttons.

The 'thank you' button works with the reputation system. Currently, if you click + or - on a post the person making that post has 1 point added or subtracted from their reputation. If someone clicks the 'thank you' button, the person being thanked will have 3 points added to his reputation.

EDIT:Is there a limit on how many thanks you can give in a certain time frame? Because since I've thanked Carlo the button is 'ghosted' out in this thread and absent in all others.

The 'Thanks' button only appears in threads you have started.

I have a feeling that you can only thank one post in that topic, as the help section says that you should thank the most relevant post.

Also, I have just set it so the thanked post is highlighted.
