Also osae-komi is permitted to occur outside the edge of the matt - to what extent I wonder? What if the competitors shift over to the adjacent matt?

I almost feel sorry for the referees.......almost. 

I had a student lose a close match at Canadian nationals do to a purported leg grab...he was winning his second match...

Some of what he showed as illegal was told to us at Canadian nationals (this year), by the head Canadian referee, to be OK. The two handed grip break can be easily boiled down pretty easily, no need for so many examples of the same thing, LOL. You just can't use two hand on one to break the grip. Grabbing your own lapel to assist wasn't illegal last July...

Not sure what happens if they switch mats - hansoku-make for uke?  There's no longer any motivation to try to drag your opponent out of the shiai-jo so I don't expect we'll see that very much.

This is exactly the same assumption I was under.
