For the randori-no-kata you should get "Judo Formal  Techniques" by Otaki and Draeger.  Most of the kata books on the market concentrate solely on the mechanical movements of the kata and do not cover its history or its key principles. There is some mention of kata in "Mind over Muscle" a compilation of Kano's articles produced by Murata. "Jigoro Kano and the Kodokan" edited  and translated by Alex Bennett is worth a read too, as is "A History of Judo" by Syd Hoare.

The papers published by DeCree and Jones, Jones and Hanon and DeCree are also worth a read.

(NB - I am assuming you do not read Japanese.)
