I'm selling very rare antique judo and jujutsu books by Jigoro Kano, Kyuzo Mifune, Kiyoshi Noguchi and other.

All books was sold except the jujutsu book  by Kiyoshi Noguchi.

The Noguchi book is pretty readily available in Japan. Not a bad book at all, and a bit of an historic oddity. The Noguchi brothers at one point were 'competitors' of a sort with the Kodokan for students not only in Tokyo, but throughout Japan, as they developed a mail order business - send in your money, they'd mail out lessons, and apparently as you reported your progress they'd promote you, sending certificates back through the mail.

The more athletic of the two wealthy sons of a medical doctor was a strong competitor, but when he got soundly beaten by a Westerner wrestler, their popularity dropped substantially, and eventually they closed the dojo where they taught a modern jujutsu / wrestling art.

Which Western wrestler? When was this?

Did they use a specific style-name for what they taught, or just the generic term "jūjutsu", as it mostly was done in the "western" world, too?

I recently dug up the following books, separately, by chance. I'm wondering if anyone has info on this gent and his dojo.

深井子之吉 Fukai (Nenokichi? sp?) wrote a couple of books, 1st ed. 1911, published by 帝國尚武會 Teikoku Shoubukai, which is apparently the name of their dojo, too. He was the shihan.

The books have a lot of 当身 striking, a range of self defense and fairly offensive moves. The books themselves look like they were not commercially published but rather were sold individually, perhaps to dojo members or subscribers, as there is a place for the member's name on the cover.

The instructors were two brothers named Noguchi. Their father was involved in the 武徳会 Butokukai, and before that the family was perhaps involved in the Tokugawa bakufu military instruction system (haven't closely read the intro yet.)

One is Noguchi Senryuken 野口潜龍軒, the founder of 神道六合流　Shinto Rokugo Ryu / Noguchi Ryu Jujutsu, who also in 1911 wrote the book 柔術修業秘法 Jujutsu Shuugyou Hihou - Secret Jujutsu Practice Methods.
