Promotion of San Jose State Univ. Uchida Yoshihiro 'Yosh' to 10th dan

USA Judo (according to its own information) on July 15th of 2013 has promoted 93-year old Uchida Yoshihiro 'Yosh' to 10th dan.

If I understand this correctly, this would be a jump promotion (?)


Mr. Uchida is the celebrated founder/headcoach of the San Jose State University Judo club. There are several articles on the Internet that highlight his life-long commitment to judo:

Uchida-sensei also holds a Kôdôkan 7th dan.

I agree with the congratulations to Mr. Uchida.  He has done great things with the judo program at San Jose State University (SJSU).

As a point of fact - Mel Bruno (who started judo in the US Air Force during the 1950s) taught judo at San Jose State Police College (now San Jose State University) in the 1930s.  After WWII, Mr. Uchida started up the modern day judo program at SJDU.  At one time there were pictures of Mel Bruno and the classes, from the 1930s, on the wall at SJSU Judo Dojo.
