Hin ga nai Empty Hin ga nai

Seldom have I seen anything so vulgar as the interior of the wonderful Butokuden of the Kyoto Budo Centre decked out in the vile and garish yellow and green tatami. Hin ga nai - tacky, tacky, tacky.  To me, it summarises all that is wrong with the IJF in one easy to digest photo.

I also attach a photo of how it should look when 'matted out', and as it did look when I was there.

The colors in the picture i not accurate and much to shrill. In reality the tatami were much more muted and hay-colored - and not remotely yellow.

I have my kata recorded on video there, but I´m still in Japan and cannot upload a pic yet.

these tamai were exactly the same:

But still not accurate. Cameras with automatic white balance have problems with these kind of light conditions.

I thought the dojo looked great, the mats in there were far better for kata than the competition area too!

The competition took place in the Budo-Center in Kyoto. The Butokuden was the warm-up and training dojo for 4 days. I will post a picture later.

The Butokuden is in the grounds of the modern Kyoto Budo Centre.
