On November 3, 2013, Sensei Takao Fujitani, Shichidan, bowed-in to the Eternal Dojo. Sensei Fujitani was the Head Instructor at Moiliili Judo Club in Honolulu for many decades, starting in 1952. He later moved to the Waiau Judo Club near Pearl City.
When I lived in Hawaii, he was also the Head Instructor at the Pearl Harbor Naval Base Judo Club where I trained under his leadership.
There are articles about Sensei on the Internet, so I will not go into detail here. Perhaps there are others in this forum who remember him, and would like to comment on their experience of him.
On a somewhat related note, another of our Hawaii Judo Colleagues, a student and friend of Sensei Fujitani, David Fukuda, passed away in October after a long illness.
