On the BJJ thread, Sodo started a discussion on teaching approaches etc. Instead of posting there, perhaps we could post here the last lesson plan we used / taught, so as to compare / contrast approaches?
For example, here what I taught in the last session. I usually create notes on my Iphone before hand and then modify on the fly as needed
Warmup
Ukemi
Commando crawl
Dead leg crawl
Shrimp
Swim feet
Why are these things important?
--SOCK WRESTLE--
Throw ->he doesn't just melt (ergo: throw and call uke to flat/turtle/guard)
--OPEN GUARD--
Always three points contact
***call out drill (arm,arm, foot)
--What to do (push, pull, lift)--
***call out drill (push/pull/lift)
--ERROR CORRECTION--
(1) One knee touches ground: shrimp/reguard/knees
(2) Both knees pass middle:
Roll to turtle
(3) Grabs both pants cuffs:
Swim feet
***Call out drill: knee/midline/pants
--RESET DRILL--
Kouchi to open guard
Try to pass
If pass, reset
Throw for throw: 10 minutes
Cool down & Chat / homework
For me, it's not uncommon to have the entire class comprise of prep work for a throw / ground work (ie: in the above, all of the warmups are actually ways to move on the ground / hold someone down), throw broken down in parts, put back together, then strung into a series.
In other words, an entire 60 minute classes devoted to 1 (or 2) techniques. Seems nuts...but in my own experience, it's what I've benefited from the most.
