Thank you for the video. We'll find out in 3 weeks if the new rules will improve competition judo.

I didn't see anything about "two handed grip breaking". That concerns me more than leg grabs.

The first video in the "not valid" section demonstrates two handed grip breaks which are now not valid. I predict this will impact judo in IJF competitions massively; many competitors will have to completely change their tactics.

Same with me. Like I said on the other judoforum- it seems so natural to use 2 hands against one to break in a lot of situations. It will take a while to internalise that I cannot do that anymore.

I find the outright leg ban simpler to deal with than what it was before, but hansoku just for a touch is still too harsh IMO, what's wrong with shido for touching the leg?

I agree, just touching the leg accidentally or to no advantage will not be penalized. The refs seemed to have a good handle on that under the last set of new rules.

I know i'm going to have to retrain myself in terms of shiai. My students are going to have a tough time, the two handed cuts are very common and they have pretty much internalized them as part of the kumi kata/move/throw process.

Mark my words, it's only a matter of time until a player kicks another player's hand then looks to the ref for hansoku. Or less facetious, ties up and uses a sleeve grip to force their hand below the belt.
