"A significant figure in the field of judo, teacher Christos Papailiopoulos, the man who organized the first judo school in Greece passed away last night, June 26, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 86 years old."

During the last few years Papailiopoulos who took up judo while living in Germany, had been one of the leading figures in the World Judo Federation, which had promoted him to 8th dan.
