I've been very impressed by the body movement taught in the best Japanese children's judo programs, like the Kasuga Judo Club (Kodokan's children's program under Mukai sensei).  They use these drills to teach basic and intermediate movement.

The DVD from which this is extracted is the product of NPO Judo Education Solidarity see http://www.npo-jks.jp . It was established 8 yrs ago or so and brings together some of the bright lights of judo in Japan.

I guess the DVD is sold with written instructional material but here's a list of the techniques with simple explanations (Japanese only)
    Judo Basic Movements (Japanese only)

Maybe I'll translate the titles only sometime, but it's a great resource.

So, where are the Japanese on using games to develop agility, balance, coordination and speed for kids ? What I see in those videos is a fair amount of pretty boring calisthenics, and judo specific drills (sannin uchikomi, etc.). Anything that addresses age specific abilities ?

The tiered system itself addresses age-specific skills - most reasonably coordinated older kids blast through the beginner skills very quickly.

Not sure about games - while there may be individuals that use games to engage kids, the Japanse junior classes I see focus on calisthenics and judo, not games. Maybe some sprints and such at the beginning to get warmed up.

I was wondering, suspected as much, thanks for the info.

I imagine it's a cultural difference sort of thing regarding games.
