NO.....they are not allowed in IJF Competition.

I bet due to the fact one side was in contact with the tatami and then, reverting to the body, it caused skin problems (eczemas, warps ecc.).Steve Leadbeater wrote:Banned several years ago due to health concerns.

Yeah the seemed like a good idea at the time, but very quickly fell out of favor before being outright banned.
