The beauty of having your grown up kids on the mat.
This not a technique or shiai video but a clip of me and my son doing randori.
How many people can say that they get to train with their kids?
Having my son and daughter on the mat is priceless to me.
She is injured at the moment but she is in the background helping out.
The very informal clip was taken by one of the judoka on his ipad, near the end of an hour of newaza and tachiwaza randori, over the holiday period ,so a fairly quiet mat.

Looks like a happy mat, I am pleased for you.

Incredibly in our small club we actually have 8 father and son / daughter relationships on the mat at any time. Sadly not my own. I hadn't given it much thought before, but am sure it is one of the reasons we have such a good feel in the club.

Lovely ashi waza by the way.

I have often trained and randori'd with my son. He is far too good for me now though. Laughing

Have also trained with my daughter and I know of several others at the club that have done the same. It's actually a very good feeling when they overtake your ability.

When I was 10 my Mum encouraged me and my 2 sisters to join her in Judo practice. She'd been practising on and off since she was a teenager. My Dad joined us all a few years later when we were teens and he was in his 30's. Now my brother-in-law and my niece and nephew have joined us on the mat.

I run my own small club in California where my dad, a 1st Kyu helps me teach the classes. Mum has bad knees so seldom radnori's, but she helps with the kids class. I love it when I have a number of family members on the mat with me. It's great to randori with my Dad and then play with the kids! My sisters don't practise anymore, which is a shame, I'd love to randori with them again.

My son is only 8, but he has been practicing with me for over a year. I love being on the mat with him and can't wait for the day when we can randori for real. I will be a proud papa when he surpasses me, but I am hoping to hold that off as long as possible. Very Happy
