Have you guys noticed a rise in schools that teach multiple martial arts? Especially in areas where the rent is too damn high (NYC) I find that dedicated judo schools are becoming increasingly rare. What effect do you think this has on the culture of the dojo, if any?
It's a small thing, but I prefer to take judo classes in places with no Tapout punching bags and camouflage kimono... When the pervading culture is not Japanese I feel like judo has a tendency to become pigeonholed, as in "this is a place that offers judo a couple of times a week" versus "this is a judo dojo."
Thoughts?
