Post View Order

Looks like currently if you go to the "view posts from today" tab (or somethink like that cant remember exactly), you see the posts that were made today. You can also change the history length of the active posts you want to see. Looks like currently it lists the topics by the number of posts in it. I was wondering if people would find it more beneficial if the topic sort order was by latest post and if this was programmatically possible? Or is this already possible and if so can someone tell me how?

this same issue is being discussed currently in the admin only discussion forum (the issue was first raised by yours truly). we're working on it, but the outlook appears bleak.
