I didn't know that Crimea was part of Russia now. I thought it belonged to the Ottomans ... but then again I have not been keeping up on my world news lately.

Well, I decided not to comment on that bit... after staring at it for 10min or so. But, I just reported it the way it was written.

And, you gotta think that the AJJF reported it within days, or hours, after.... or maybe before ... . ... . .. the effect.

    Tough all the way 'round....

I can't imagine anyone would risk their A players in something like this, can you?

Are we sure the "Crimean" team was not just more Russians in green judogi?

The Crimea is predominately ethnic Russians. I would bet their security and police services are very much dominated by Russians.

You are just bound and determined not to have a dark, warped sense of humor about this, aren't you?

other than kato, the police don't have any players getting much international experience.
they do have some athletes on the national team that don't have much opportunity to compete abroad.
i would think theyd want to allow some of these athletes the experience of competing against international competitors.

all of the athletes who went have achieved far more than i ever came close to in my competitive judo days, but a few of them dont really place all that well even at the police only tournaments.
