Frank Phillips, 8* of Lakeland, FL has passed. Frank was a regional referee, hosted many tournaments, was a judo tournament director and organizer for the Sunshine State Games for many years, and has been involved with more athletes and organizations over his many decades in judo than I can possibly name. Frank will be greatly missed by the Florida judo community and his contributions will live on.
On a personal note, Frank was my first judo instructor over 20 years ago. Though I only trained under him for a short while, we maintained occasional contact over the years. I last saw him at Sunshine State Games last month where he was mat side with a walker, recovering from spinal surgery.
