The Mongolian sumo reikishi are making a huge impact in professional sumo. They work hard, seem to have a great humility (with some bumpy exceptions early on), many of them learn Japanese quickly and well, and the Japanese fans respond well to them after a rocky start.

I think most if not all of them are 'provincials' as mentioned here - country boys growing up as semi-nomads, lots of walking and physical labor.
