Most of the women I've spoken with. Especially the competitors.
It's perceived as indicating their belt is "different" (ie less than) a males, and for yudansha does have an unfortunate resemblance to certain small mammals.

Regardless of the arguments, you're not going to convince someone once their feminist hackles are up.

These are the posters for which I translated a number of Kano shihan's sayings.

The picture is of Kano shihan and his lifelong friend Dr. Godai (left) playing go. I forget the occasion.

Dr. Godai was a medical school graduate of what became the University of Tokyo with Kano shihan. Godai was famous in his own right, a renown physician. Dr. Godai and Kano shihan, as young students, practiced jujutsu together and were called upon to demonstrate jujutsu to former US President Grant during his visit to Japan. Apparently Godai stopped practicing jujutsu sometime after graduating university.

Years later, Kano shihan wrote that Godai would have made a great judoka if he had chosen to continue his practice!

What would be cool is if some additional information about the photos could be included. Perhaps on a page 2, meant to be printed on the flip side, a fine-print caption or as pdf file metadata.
Not all of us are sufficient scholars of judo history to recognize the photos, including who is present, what is the context and how it relates to the quotation in question.
