Greetings,
Our club is facing the possibility that the building we train in will be razed to build (more) new luxury condos. Apparently there aren't enough of them nearby and they are more important than sport and culture.
That leaves us with a problem: The building we are in has mats shared by several martial arts and they are beat. They needed replacement 10 years ago, they don't belong to us, and they wouldn't survive a move anyway. We need mats, and mats are expensive! We need about $5,000 to have a similar size as our current play area. Our club dues are low to encourage participation and that doesn't allow us an equipment budget; most members are college students or not able to help fund new equipment.
On the plus side, we are a 501(c)3 registered public educational and service charity.
Can anyone recommend specific grants to apply for or fundraising programs that actually work? How have others funded major capital purchases on a shoestring budget?
