This forum still has some great contributors. They offer insights into judo and the history of judo, that you cannot find elsewhere. They are doing the research and sharing the benefits with us. NBK is in the process of writing a book that I'm sure will be of great value to serious students of Judo. I would not have known he was doing that had it not been for this forum.
The forum can be slow at times with not many contributors but it is still a good resource and it would be great to see more people take part in it.

I still refer to old posts on this forum regularly. There is some true gold here!

Time to call it quits? - Page 2 Empty Hello - Looking Forward To Learning From You All

Post by drutgat Fri Jan 04, 2019 12:50 pm

    Hi Folks,
I have just discovered E-Judo, and have read the posts on this forum. Even though it looks like many people do not post here regularly, I do look forward to receiving answers and suggestions at times to my questions.

I am a 56 year-old guy who last took Judo when I was 12, but I am returning to training next week (second week of January 2019). I know that it is going to be hell on my body for the first couple of months, but I will persevere.

I am looking forward to learning from the knowledge, wisdom, and even cynicism of members of E-Judo.

I check near daily. There's not much activity.
Other social media seems to have swamped all MA fora - Martial Arts Planet is about the most active bu the posts are mostly lightweight. E-Budo, etc activity way down.

I'm trying to figure out what platform to use to release bits of my research leading up to finishing my text and I can't imagine it will be here. Probably on FB and Wordpress with some links here, maybe some Youtube clips.

I am just about swamped with research, trying to find the right framework to present some portion of it.

In doing so I've found things that have apparently never been mentioned in modern Japanese, much less in English. Fun but a lot of work.

Why not post on multiple sites? Or, post on one site but put links on multiple sites?

Even with slowing posts this is my favorite site. Wink

That's what I'd be doing with a Wordpress site and posting links here.

    NBK,
Can you say what your forthcoming book is about?

I start with the history of judo, then Japanese martial arts, then????? Hard to describe without giving it away, and too early for that.

I'll introduce some interesting folks pretty much lost to history and some obscure tales of Kano Jigoro along with a lot of other material. He's much more interesting than most anyone involved with judo today seem to know, possibly except a handful of people.

    We'll see.

    Sounds intriguing.
