BJA and UFC go their separate ways

So, what's that mean? UFC and BJA are no longer linked so BJA is trying to get back in the good graces of the IJF?

The IJF's attitude is towards the MMA in general and UFC in particular is baffling. For an organization obsessed with making money of of Judo they wure know how to shoot themselves in the foot. What exactly are they afraid of?

Well, what happens when top ranked judoka start leaving judo to make money in MMA ?

They'll raise the profile of Judo by getting on TV and PPV and attract more people to Judo.
Amateur boxing doesn't suffer because amateurs turn pro, it benefits from the exposure.
Ronda Rousey hasn't exactly hurt Judo with her transition to MMA. Even her Gracie coaches readily admit most of what makes her a winner came from her years as Judoka.
No one with a bone-fide shot is going to give up on an Olympic medal, just to turn pro prematurely. Especially knowing how much higher their stock rises if they enter the Octogon with an Olympic pedigree.
The UFC and IJF could really benefit each other, especially in North America and the wider English speaking world. Sadly the IJF is just too insular to see that clearly.

Ronda hasn't helped Judo much, either, and that's not a criticism of her. I haven't' seen numbers of judoka in the USA skyrocketing despite her notoriety.
In fact, she quit judo in her prime...looks like she made the right decision to me.
