Purpose
- Kata (form) is a prearranged set of techniques to teach, learn and practice the techniques (waza) and principles (ri) of Judo and to blend/harmonize (ri ai) them by practicing.
- Students should learn to throw to all directions of the Throwing Circle (Happo no Kuzushi) and also learn to use the reaction of their partners to an initial attack, which can not be completed because of the reaction (defence) of their partner.
Thoughts
- "Renraku" literally means "building a web". Renraku waza (Combinations) are an important part of Nage waza (throwing techniques) to use your partner's/opponent's defence to unblance him by reaction (Hando no Kuzushi). In renraku waza *the direction of Kuzushi (unbalancing) is changing* therefore you use an initial attack with one throwing technique to throw your partner/opponent to a different direction (often the opposite direction) with a different throwing technique.
- This Kata can be taught to lower and middle Kuy Belts and the focus is on using the reaction of the partner to the initial attack by proper moving, space, timing and technique. The first attack must be a real attack, the defence a real defence and Tori is using the reaction of Uke to throw with a second technique in direction of Kuzushi created by the first attack.
- I use basic and common techniques (Leg , Hand and Hip, majority Ashi waza) to show the principle of Hando no Kuzushi and Renraku waza (building a web of techniques). You can also use different techniques as long as they are sound to show the principle.
- I don't want to use Sutemi waza because the Kata is for lower and middle Kyu Belts. That been said Sacrifice Techniques are expanding the possibilities of combinations, because there is a lot of vertical movement and Kuzushi. Combinations completed by Sutemi waza could be another Kata for blue and brown belts.
