I've already pointed out the resemblance to your neighbor, Judoratt ... he'll be there for two days with nothing to do anyway.

Can someone confirm that this was for real and is not some kind of photoshop of something at Vagas. If this was real then my respect for the JFA has dropped to an all time low.

I can confirm that the YouTube is genuine and not a photoshop

The YouTube features the open event, supposedly the premier event, don't even try to apologise for these mysoginists.

When I first viewed JFA 2013 Nationals Youtube I thought it was some kind of joke, sadly it was not.

I would like to thank the original poster of the YouTube for having the courage to expose this organisation for what it is. However, it appears that a cover-up is now in progress and access to view the video has been restricted.

No doubt there will be copies; they may find that they cannot make this incident simply go away.

    Looks that way!

On another note: This year the AKJA Australian Championships are in Melbourne 12th to 14th July. They will be held at Latrobe University. There will not be alcohol, scantily dressed ladies nor men in G-strings on or near the mat. During the shiai there will be due respect for those that partake of this full contact sport. I encourage all judoka to consider entering or to come as spectators.

The person streaking is Mark Calaway who holds an official position with Judo Australia on the National Coaching Commission.

Women escorts in tightly clad micro dresses walking out athletes

Drunken male commentator (noted in comments), drowning out the referees

Mark Calaway streaking with his undies up his arse on the mat during shiai

Complete disrespect for women’s judo and the sport of judo in general and at the JFA's Australian Judo Championships.

Officials from the Australian Sports Commission (major funding provider) walked out.

Protests made by Referees and officials ignored

Cronyism, sexism, discrimination and harassment are alive and well in JFA

The poster of theYoutube recieved a letter demanding he take down the YouTube video. He initially resisted but has now complied. One can only imagine what pressure he felt. Good on him for posting it in the first place. Someone will have copied it and I hope the PM gets to see it.

The JFA hopefully has learned a lesson on the power of social media. They obviously are trying to shoot the messenger but they should target the original behaviours.
If you don't want to be embarrassed then don't allow embarrassing things to happen.
Sounds like they all need a refresher course in organisational risk management.

Disturbingly, on-line comments by some JFA people have attempted  to play down and make light of the events.

Kiwi0810 is absolutely right when he says they don't understand social media. Taking the video down from YouTube will merely raise interest when it inevitably resurfaces.

Perhaps there will now be a concerted push from the traditionalists to GET RID of the current group who think they own Australian Judo.

Right on Steve, they need a thorough house cleaning.

The video demonstrates how far the JFA have deviated from the aims and objectives of Kodokan Judo. Jita Kyoei?

As an aside, can you imagine the damage if any japanese dignatories from the Kodokan were present?

Judo politics in Australia never fails to astound me and I've only been in the sport for 5 years. I have tried to remain neutral but the actions of some people have demonstrated that their reputations were earned.
There are a lot of good people that want to promote judo at all levels but there are a lot of people with huge egos. But we all know the people at grassroots levels that actually get the work done.
I just chase judo competitions wherever I can because in my neck of the woods there are only 2 other senior women to play with. I love the discipline so I try to make work trips into judo trips. If I go interstate I take a gi and try and catch a training session at another club because I never fail to learn something. I joke about about having to breed my own competition but realistically that is what I have done. Give my daughter about 2 years before she whips me.

Now I need to work out who to complain to. I'll couch it in terms of organisational risk and unwelcome conduct because they really need to consider it in those terms if nothing else. If they don't get it in terms of moral conduct, maybe they will if they realise that it exposes them to legal risk and that tends to be costly. And with the new OHS legislation nationwide they become personally at risk if they do nothing.

On a different note but in some ways related, I thought that if you lost consciousness for any reason [including strangles] that you were out for the rest of the day. I saw one prominent young judoka in this situation and we all thought he was out with this being a huge upset as he was definitely a favourite. But he was allowed to continue into the next round.

And why wasn't the chap who had an iPod that fell out from his gi disqualified? Or even my own daughter who forgot that her ID was around her neck despite her coach asking 3 times if she had taken off her ID only to be spotted during the gold medal final? She fully deserved to be pinged although our entire club was rather relieved that she wasn't.

As a result of finding the original youtube post in discussion while looking for some legitimate good judo fights from the 2013 Aussie Nationals, I have been compelled to sign up to this forum and express my view.
I have travelled the world doing judo all my life. Seen many things in judo and have had judo take the lead in my life. Needless to say I am very passionate about judo.
I am very disappointed and saddened to see judo in Australia hit such a low. I hope for the future of judo in Australia that there be a full inquiry into this disgrace resulting in people being made accountable. Not just the perpetrator but those people that can't see anything wrong with this representation that have official capacity.
Actually I gave up on the JFA years ago while competing for Australia internationally.
I now have young children that I will teach judo outside the JFA and guide them to develop overseas so as they can experience real judo.
Finally I am not surprised that this has happened, this ugliness has just raised its head through social media as I have known this behaviour and contempt to be present for years under this current family run federation.

Will anything be done about this? No I don't think so....Shame, Shame, Shame.

I spent a little time training in Australia with the great Arthur Moorshead in Melbourne and he would have been horrified at this.  I also fought Chris Bacon a few times - a hard, strong Australian judoka.

There is something seriously wrong in Australian sport at the moment.  We had the issues with the swimmers at the London Olympics last year, wher had "Powerpoint gate" with the Australian cricket team, the cricket incident this week and I suspect all is not well with the Australian Rugby Union team either.  Judo - well what was in that film was totally disgraceful.

I have never been afraid to ask questions or step on toes, so I'll take some pleasure in trying to get rid of those who are currently in power.

Another few years of being refused a promotion won't bother me now.

I feel the need to apologize for not downloading this video off of YouTube. Usually whenever I see something egregious that is Judo related on YouTube I take a copy of it in case the video is taken down and in case someone needs video evidence. An example of this would be a coach choking out a student for laughs. I should have done that here. It's too bad he took the video down but it's understandable especially if the owner of the YouTube account is known. The petty politics of Judo can rear its ugly head in these kinds of situations especially if one is an instructor or a yudansha working toward their next promotion.

For anyone interested, there are various programs available to download videos off youtube, as well as manage downloads in general. Most provide a simple button to press on your browser that will allow you to save the videos, which is something I've found most useful for techniques, instructionals, as well as absolutely bizarre sights such as the one heading this thread. I use DownThemAll and DownloadHelper personally, but the choice is yours.

JFA are still trying to supress the video. They think they can pressure posters into taking it down. Futile. When are they going to take responsibility for this incident? This was the Australian Womens Open event no less ...
